With demand for thinner and lighter laptops on the rise, compromises in materials and design have resulted in products that are less durable. Broken laptop hinges are very common and there are a number of repair options.
If the metal hinge has broken off of the base of the laptop or the screen lid but the base and lid themselves are not broken, it may be possible to reattach the parts using strong 2-part epoxy. If the base or the lid have broken off, replacing parts of the laptop body may be required.
